The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is a federally sponsored, but locally initiated planning process that outlines strategies for creating employment opportunities, fostering stable and diversified local economices, improving social conditions, and providing a forum for coordinated development efforts. The CEDS becomes a local process that reviews how economic development happens, evaluates strengths and weaknesses of the region, establishes attainable goals for projects critical to the region, and outines development strategies to achieve goals. The CEDS is a statutory requirement used by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) in funding public works, business development, and planning grants and loans. EDA is responsible for reviewing the district's eligibility for EDA programs. Approval of the CEDS confers eligibility for grants and loans, and a CEDS annual update continues the eligibility status of hte applicant for an additional year. To read more, please click here. |
